Unix Laboratory - 358 Dunn Hall

The Unix Laboratory is the general-access CS student laboratory and the hub of student life in the Department. It has 14 IBM workstations running Linux (Debian), each of which is connected to a common file server. Students can connect their own laptop computers wirelessly to the Department and College networks. The laboratory also provides a laser printer for student use. All CS students have card access to the Unix Laboratory whenever the building is open. The Unix laboratory is conveniently located next to the Teaching Assistant (TA) office.

High Performance Computing Lab - 356 Dunn Hall

The High Performance Computing (HPC) lab contains a networked cluster of PCs and several workstations with Graphics Processing Units. These cutting edge supercomputing resources are used in parallel processing applications throughout science, medicine, and industry.

Computer Games Lab - 344 Dunn Hall

The Computer Games Lab serves as a focus of student and faculty projects in the research, development, and testing of computer games. The lab includes several examples of commercial games and game consoles.

Systems Laboratory Cluster - Third Floor Dunn Hall

The Systems Laboratory Cluster consists of five project rooms for individual and small group work. One of the lab rooms is currently used for a project in robot control software.

Server Room - 388 Dunn Hall

Our Server Room provides a secure and environmentally stable location for our primary laboratory and research servers. Our lab server is a dual-processor Gateway with 4G main memory and 340G disk space, with a 250G archival backup drive. Our database server is a dual-processor HP with 2G main memory and 160G disk space. Our newest addition is an IBM BladeCenter cluster with five Xeon blades -- each with 2G memory and 80G disk, and with a dual Gigabit Ethernet backbone.

"IBM-Potsdam Alumni" Wireless Classroom - 206 Dunn Hall

This classroom was made possible by funds raised by the Potsdam alumni from IBM. The room is designated as a "smart classroom" and contains a ceiling-mount LCD projector and a podium with a PC workstation. document camera, and AV switch. The room also contains a rolling cart equipped with 24 IBM ThinkPads with wireless access that can be used for in-class laboratory work.

"Class of 1975" Classroom - 102 Dunn Hall

This classroom was made possible by funds raised by the Class of 1975 and also by Michael Galane, '74, of Hewlett-Packard. The classroom is also designated as a "smart classroom". The podium has both a PC and a Mac.

Teaching Assistant Office - 384 Dunn Hall

The Teaching Assistant (TA) office is the nerve center for peer-support services in the department. This room serves as office space for the CS Department TAs.

ACM Chapter Office - 350 Dunn Hall

This office is the home of the SUNY Potsdam Student Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and serves as the base of operations for the Chapter. The office has a PC with access to the Department laboratory server. In addition, a Linux/Solaris/Windows server cluster has been donated by Dana Harris, an alumnus, to provide opportunities for students in the ACM Student Chapter to experiment with server-related projects.

Department Office - 305 Dunn Hall

Our Department is served by our Department Secretary and part-time student assistants. Our office provides mail, printer, and FAX access for faculty and staff.
