Five PeopleWe are five people: five comrades, five soldiers, bound in blood, battled in sweat, and suffered in tears; we faced terrors to see each other for one more day. We are five people: once children, still children, who bellowed and howled; dualed, conquered, and suffered as the frame to our home collapsed, the golden bands of our makers shattered, and finally the one holy union we knew crumbled. Fires burned our skin and scarred our flesh, yet no matter how tarnished, we still walk through the smoke arm-in-arm and avoid ash once more. We are five people: five fighters, five survivors, with innate praise and pride in our friendship We slap knees to our nonsense as bliss tears stain our cheeks. Now, we stand our fingers laced together in one line no red rover can tear or take one away. We are five people: two men, three women, who, for as long as thunder booms and lightening strikes, will never unclench our fingers and leave. |
