Opportunities in the Field

There is a vast range of employment opportunities in the geologic sciences. Students have found jobs as consulting geologists, environmental geologists, members of oil exploration teams, college professors, geophysicists, Earth Science teachers and environmental engineers. SUNY Potsdam geology graduates have worked for numerous environmental consulting companies, Philips Petroleum Co., the Zinc Corporation of America, Sheri Griffith Expeditions, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Empire Soils Investigators. In the past few years job prospects have been excellent and our graduates have been in high demand, particularly by small environmental firms looking to hire field geologists.
