Student Research

Undergraduate Research in Biology

Biology faculty at SUNY Potsdam are pursuing a number of research projects in which undergraduate researchers participate. These include:

Ecology & Evolutionary Biology

  • Biodiversity of dragonflies and other aquatic insects
  • Conservation biology of threatened vertebrates
  • Diving ecology of air-breathing vertebrates (primarily seals)

  • Pollinator communities in the Adirondacks
  • Trophic ecology of aquatic communities

Cell & Molecular Biology

  • Cell-extracellular matrix interactions in developing tissues
  • Microscopy in cell biology (Electron, Fluorescence, AFM)
  • Population genetics of aquatic insects
  • Population studies and molecular systematics of dragonflies

Anatomy & Physiology

  • Behavioral and physiological telemetry of seals and fish
  • Bioenergetics of larval fishes
  • Diving behavior and physiology of harbor seals
  • Effects of catch-and-release angling on fish physiology and behavior
