125th Anniversary Events Summary

  • Band Series
    May 2, 2012, 7:30 p.m., Crane Alumnus Rick Regan conducted the Crane Concert Band in Hosmer Hall.
    Emeritus Rebecca Covell conducted during programs by the Crane Concert
    Band, May 2, 2012, and Crane Symphonic Band, May 3, 2012.

    This series showcased Crane emeriti and alumni as guest conductors,
    featured composers and clinicians including Rebecca Covell, John
    O'Reilly, Timothy Topolewski, Anthony Maiello, Arthur Frackenpohl, Can
    Welcher, Elliot Del Borgo and others.
  • Spring 2012 Verdi Messa da Requiem Performances
    As part of the 2012 Lougheed-Kofoed Festival of the Arts, The Crane Chorus and Crane Symphony Orchestra performed Verdi?s monumental Messa da Requiem under the baton of Ann Howard Jones, the 2012 Dorothy Albrecht Gregory Visiting Conductor.
    The guest soloists were Kelly Kaduce and Charles Temkey, and Crane
    School of Music alumni Margaret Lattimore ?91 and Dimitri Pittas ?99.
    The Requiem was performed at SUNY Potsdam?s Helen M. Hosmer Concert
    Hall on April 28, 2012, as part of a week of masterclasses, lectures,
    and workshops in Potsdam, which were open to the public. It was then be
    performed in New York City at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, on May
    1. The New York City performance was made possible by the Adeline Maltzan Crane Chorus Performance Tour Fund, funded by Dr. Gary C. Jaquay ?67, with additional support from the bequest of Brock and Janie McElheran.

  • Music Education Symposium: Celebrating our History, Charting our Future

    October 20 - 22, 2011

    faculty, alumni, and emeriti celebrated the history of music education
    at Crane and imagined its future during this three-day event.
    Presentations included the keynote address, "Imagining 150: Crafting a
    Vision for the Next 25 years of Music Education at The Crane School of
    Music" by Dr. Carol Richardson, "Concert Tour of Crane Historical Sites
    featuring original works by Harriet Crane Bryant" and "Messengers of Music:
    The Legacy of Julia Crane" by Dr. Caron Collins, "A History of The
    Crane School of Music Part V: 1986 - 2011" by Dr. Robyn Hosley, and
    "Music Technology at The Crane School of Music" by Dr. Peter McCoy and
    Mr. Scott LaVine. Discussion forums were also held.

    David Gluck, percussionist and professor at SUNY Purchase, gave a one hour presentation on the book he
    co-authored with four-time World Series Champion and former New York Yankee
    Centerfielder Bernie Williams.

    of SUNY Potsdam?s Crane School of Music faculty will performed in the
    Rotunda at Steinway Hall. Performers included Paul Wyse, Eugenia
    Tsarov, and Franois Germain, piano; David Pittman-Jennings, baritone;
    Christopher Creviston, saxophone; Julianne Kirk, clarinet; and Carol
    Lowe, bassoon.

  • Sandy Feldstein Music Business Roundtable
    September 17, 2011

    This roundtable featured outstanding Crane alumni in prominent music business careers.

  • Jerry Schwiebert,
    a master movement specialist, was in residence at the Crane School
    of Music September 14-17. He worked with a host of students in the wind, percussion, voice, string and
    conducting areas, as well as host "open sessions."
  • John O'Reilly
    conducted the Crane Wind Ensemble on his work "Spirit of
    Flight" for the Family Weekend Concert, Friday, September 16 in Hosmer
    Hall. Additionally, the Crane Bands hosted a reading session of John
    O'Reilly's band works on Saturday,
    September 17.

    The partnership of the Dorothy Albrecht Gregory Visiting Conductor
    Fund, established by Dorothy Albrecht Gregory ?61, and the Adeline
    Maltzan Crane Chorus Performance Tour Fund, established by Dr. Gary C.
    Jaquay ?67, brings distinguished conductors to The Crane School of Music
    for festival performances by the Crane Chorus and Orchestra, and funds
    travel for major Crane Chorus performances to venues outside of Potsdam.
