In 2007, with composer Christopher Theofanidis, Lax wrote The Refuge for the Houston Grand Opera. In 2013, she wrote and designed the highly successful Houston In Concert Against Hate for the Houston Symphony in conjunction with the Anti-Defamation League. The production profiled Houston leaders in civil rights, their wry and humble voices, and featured actress Alfre Woodard and rapper Bun B. Lax's new opera Uncovered, with composer Lori Laitman, is based on her memoir, Uncovered: How I Left Hasidic Life and Finally Came Home, an intimate account of thirty years as a Hasidic wife, mother, and closeted lesbian who finds her way to an authentic life. Uncovered was a Redbook Magazine "Best of 2015."
