The Department of Literacy offers two graduate M.S.Ed. programs that prepare candidates to serve in the field of literacy education: Literacy Specialist and Literacy Educator

Literacy Specialist

The Literacy Specialist Program allows candidates who hold general education certificates to obtain an additional Initial certification at one of the following levels:

• Literacy Specialist (Birth-Grade 6)
• Literacy Specialist (Grades 5-12)

and allows candidates to obtain a Professional certificate in the area of initial certification.

Literacy Educator

The Literacy Educator program allows candidates to obtain a Professional certificate in the area of their initial certification, but does not lead to an additional certification. The Literacy Educator program addresses the interests of candidates who seek increased knowledge and skills related to literacy education, but who do not intend to pursue careers as literacy specialists.
