What Others Say

[from the Clarkson Men's & Women's Hockey Teams]

I'd like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude and appreciation for the time and effort that you and your staff put into our team building sessions at Potsdam State University.

Both Clarkson University's Men and Women's Hockey Team expressed during the debriefing sessions that the experience they had with you significantly contributed to team development. Both teams were drawing incredible metaphors and analogies from their High Rope experience to team support on and off the ice.

I personally would like to thank you, not only for the actual experience, but for the time you took during the preparation work and debriefing. You and your staff demonstrated professional attitudes and provided a safe environment. The word is spreading quickly at Clarkson regarding the success out hockey teams had with your program.

Lastly, please pass on to your staff that they did an outstanding job. At all times, they supported our athletes and provided guidance and encouragement for them to complete the obstacle course.

Our Cub Scout Pack has visited the Leadership and Challenge Center rock wall for two years straight and it has become an annual tradition. We've already booked a date for next year. Rock climbing is a safe but very challenging activity for our boys and even their parents! The staff at AIR are extremely friendly and helpful - they make you feel safe at all times and provide incredible encouragement and positive feedback.

My children ages 11 and 14 each had their birthday parties at SUNY Potsdam's climbing wall this year. They had a great time and learned a lot about the wall and how to use it. I felt the student workers at the climbing wall were very knowledgeable and put the kid's safety first. They engaged the kids in age appropriate conversation and really made it fun.

The adventure course at SUNY Potsdam was a favorite with our 7th and 8th graders from McKenney Middle School in Canton! They went back to school raving about how much fun "the Squirrel" was and how they challenged themselves to try something they never thought they could do. The students also loved the Rock Climbing Wall. The different ability levels of the wall gave novice as well as more advanced kids a challenge. The games in the center of the fieldhouse were also fun for them because they were games the students had never played before. I also can not say enough great things about Adam Wheeler and his staff. They were very professional, safety was number 1 with them, and they were great with 7th and 8th graders! The adventure course is on our list for next year!

[from the Boy Scouts]

The Rockclimbing program at SUNY Potsdam is the best I have ever seen. We take our Boy Scouts every year and it is what they look forward to the most of any event! The Coordinators and staff are wonderful. They are very helpful and have a lot of patience with the younger children. Keep up the great work!

We allow our prospective students visiting in groups from local high schools to try out the climbing wall. For many of these students, its their first exposure to any type of rock climbing and a perfect example of a fundamental reason for attending college. And that reason is simply to try things you've never before had the opportunity to experience.

We had a group of US and International students participate in the team building activities. They learned coordination, cooperation, problem solving, perseverance, and leadership all in a safe environment. The facilitators were well trained and professional, and made things fun for everyone. Overall we had a fantastic experience and will certainly bring future groups back for a similar experience.

The rock wall climbing and cooperative learning experience at SUNY Potsdam is one of the most challenging and rewarding programs that I have encountered in my teaching experience. The students in my third grade class deemed this field trip the best they had ever been on and talked about it the rest of the school year. I would recommend this experience to any group looking for fun, teamwork, and education all wrapped up in one trip.
