November is Native American Heritage month.In honor of this, the Center for Diversity is hosting the Akwesasne Conference and Reception in order to provide participants an introduction to Mohawk history and culture. Barry Montour, Director of the Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education, will lead an engaging presentation and discussion on Mohawk history and government.
Future teachers are especially encouraged to attend in order to gain an enhanced understanding of the important role that educators play in validating their students' cultural heritage in the classroom and to gain insight into the evolution of Native American education in this region.
Light refreshments will follow.
