The Side Products of the Friedle-Craft Reaction
In working with Dr. Walker, I am currently looking at the side products of the Friedle-Craft reaction. The production of vinyl esters currently uses mercuric acid and concentrated sulfuric acid, toxic and harmful chemicals. Could it be possible to do it in with safer chemicals, and get equal or greater yield of the product desired? I am working on performing several procedures during the spring semester to see if this is possible.
The side products of this reaction might also have other applicable uses. I have been approved to present a poster of my results at the national ACS (American Chemical Society) meeting in Atlanta, GA in March.
