Alexander: An Examination of Alexander the Great through Historical Fiction
The aim of this project is to create a work of historical fiction based upon Alexander the Great?s experiences in Egypt as told from his point of view. The book will focus on his visit to the temple of Zeus-Ammon, the turning point in his career. Out of all the books and articles written about Alexander, none so far has told the events in his life using his perspective. Instead, the materials written about Alexander are in the third person, or are told from the perspective of a secondary character. I have chosen to focus on Alexander the Great and his journey in Egypt because he has long been a source of fascination for me, and because I am familiar with that particular culture in addition to ancient Greek culture. Alexander?s perspective is important because it will give scholars a deeper understanding of him both as a man and individual, as opposed to just seeing him as a nearly superhuman, brilliant general.
