The Impact of the Common Core Standards On Instruction in the Secondary English Language Arts Classroom
In 2011, the Common Core Standards were implemented as a way to address student and teacher expectations. The standards were designed to ensure student success in current and future academic settings and as future citizens. As a student in the Department of Secondary Education, I am conducting a stud,y determining the scope of impact of the Common Core Standards on instruction in the Secondary English Language Arts classroom. Under the supervision of Dr. Deborah Conrad, my study is specifically focusing on the possible differences between the extent of Common Core implementation in rural, urban, and suburban school districts. I will be collecting research through surveying, interviewing, and observing Secondary English language arts classrooms. Additionally, I plan to attend a conference addressing Common Core in a Secondary ELA classroom.
