Credit limit warning



You are eligible for federal aid and no appeal is necessary.




Making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) - Assigned to a student who has earned 67% of all attempted credit hours, is meeting the GPA requirement, but is in danger of exceeding the maximum time frame allotted to receive federal aid for the completion of a degree. Regulations mandate that receipt of federal aid be available for not more than 150% of the credits needed to complete the degree program.

You are ineligible for federal aid and may appeal your status.


Over Maximum Time Frame - Assigned when a student has exceeded the maximum time frame to complete the degree requirements and has attempted more than 150% of the credits required for the degree program.

Mathematically Impossible:

You are ineligible for federal aid and may appeal your status.

Mathematically Impossible to Earn Degree--Assigned to a student for

whom it will be mathematically impossible to complete their degree

program within the maximum time frame permitted.

Failed probation



You are ineligible for federal aid and may appeal your status only if distinctly new circumstance from your last appeal affected your academic progress.


Not Making Satisfactory Academic Progress - Assigned to a student who has not earned 67% of all attempted credit hours and is no longer eligible for ?Financial Aid Warning?, has been granted a waiver and has failed to fulfill the requirements of the Academic Plan established for the Probation status.

You are ineligible for federal aid and may appeal your status.


Not Making Satisfactory Academic Progress -Assigned to a student who has not earned 67% of all attempted credit hours, or has not met the GPA requirement and has been academically dismissed by the college, and is no longer eligible for ?Financial Aid Warning?.

If your Status is:

Probation



You are eligible for federal aid because you have appealed your status, been granted a waiver and have, or will need to, sign an academic plan.


Financial Aid Probation - Assigned to a student who has not earned 67% of all attempted credit hours, has failed to meet the GPA requirement, or both; was previously placed on ?Financial Aid Warning?; and receives approval of an appeal to have federal aid reinstated. The student must meet SAP standards OR meet the requirements of the academic plan assigned with the probationary status, to qualify for further federal aid at the end of each probationary payment period.

Eligible (on Academic Plan)



You are eligible for federal aid because you have satisfied the requirements of your academic plan.

Eligible (on Academic Plan) - Assigned to a student who has not earned 67% of all attempted credit hours, has failed to meet the GPA requirement, or both; was previously placed on "Financial Aid Warning"; has been on Probation for at least one prior term and has fulfilled the requirements of the academic plan defined by the SUNY Potsdam Financial Aid Office as a condition of the probation. The student must meet SAP standards OR meet the requirements of the academic plan assigned with the probationary status, to qualify for further federal aid at the end of each payment period.

You are eligible for federal aid and no appeal is necessary.


Financial Aid Warning - Assigned to a student who has not earned 67 of all attempted credit hours, or has failed to meet the GPA requirement or both. This student will receive federal aid in the first subsequent term of attendance that follows the term in which the requirement was not met. Student must meet SAP requirements at the end of the payment period to continue to be eligible for federal aid.
