College Headlines

115 SUNY Potsdam students volunteer as part of Make a Difference Week
With students out in force using volunteer opportunities to help others in a variety of ways, SUNY Potsdam celebrated Make a Difference Week from October 21 to October 27. A total of 115 student volunteers helped their neighbors and had a positive impact on their community.  (Read more)

Celebrate with crumb cake as SUNY Potsdam's Crumb Library turns 40
SUNY Potsdam’s Frederick Crumb Library turned 40 years old and the library faculty and staff invited everyone to join them in the celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The celebration featured a giant crumb cake, entertainment and displays.  (Read more)

180 SUNY Potsdam student athletes rake lawns for village residents
A total of 180 SUNY Potsdam student-athletes volunteered their time on a recent Sunday to rake 21 lawns for elderly residents in the village and at two downtown parks as part of the Annual SUNYAC Leaf Raking Project.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam's Out of the Darkness Walk raises more than $10,000
A total of 261 people took part in the inaugural Out of the Darkness Community Walk hosted by SUNY Potsdam that raised more than $10,000 for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention for suicide awareness and prevention.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam offers new web system to aid students and employers with internships and jobs
Finding a worthy volunteerism opportunity, an exciting internship or the perfect job is just a click away for SUNY Potsdam students since the launch of BearTracker, a new Web-based system that allows students and employers to post information about themselves in hopes of finding solid matches.  (Read more)

Crane using Internet 2 to expand its teaching and learning opportunities
How can a student at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music attend music education class in Schuette Hall at 9 a.m. and make it to Ottawa for a private lesson with a master musician by 10 a.m.? It’s not a super sonic jet plane; it’s Internet 2.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam music business reps attend music conference in NYC
A total of 12 SUNY Potsdam students recently had the opportunity to attend the annual week-long MCJ Music Marathon in New York City along with hundreds of other college radio station employees from throughout the country to attend educational panels, meet with music business representatives from all areas of the industry and go to the live showcases of artists they play and support.  (Read more)

Graham receives Potsdam College Foundation Board of Trustees 2007 Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year Award
Instrumental in last year’s world premiere opera “The Sailor Boy and the Falcon,” Graham helped to secure more than $220,000 in support of the Snell Music Theater renovation and the Opera Program.  (Read more)

Corning Incorporated Foundation makes donation to the Rebecca V. Sheard Literacy Center
The Corning Foundation grant was used in support of a series of workshops presented by the Literacy Center titled “Literacy Success for Struggling Students Grades 3-8.” The workshops, which involved SUNY Potsdam education students and faculty as well as local school teachers, were designed to provide effective literacy tools to teachers of this traditionally neglected age group.  (Read more)

Dec. 25: Crane Candlelight Concerts to be broadcast on WPBS-TV
The magical sounds of Potsdam's annual holiday tradition, SUNY Potsdam's Christmas Candlelight Concerts, can be relived this season as WPBS-TV broadcasts the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 performances. The broadcasts will feature the Crane Chorus and Crane Orchestra as well as special guests.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam's Komara pens book chronicling of legendary Blues Musician Robert John
Edward Komara, Crane librarian at SUNY Potsdam, recently penned the book “The Road to Robert Johnson: The Genesis and Evolution of Blues in the Delta From the Late 1800s Through 1938” that is now available to the public.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam theatre students have works performed in NYC
Three SUNY Potsdam students and their professor recently had their original writing performed by professional actors and produced for public performance at various venues in New York City.  (Read more)
