Alumni Project underway!
SUNY Potsdam is working directly with Harris Connect to publish an Alumni Directory which will debut in the Fall of 2010.  A series of mailings, e-mails and phone calls will be taking place during the coming months.  We appreciate your participation in this endeavor with Harris Connect to create the most comprehensive directory possible!

Nominate someone for one of the Alumni Association Awards presented during Reunion Weekend in July.  The deadline is February 2.  Click herefor award descriptions and the nomination form.

Incoming or current students can apply for an Alumni Association Scholarship in the amount of $1000.  Students must be the child or grandchild of a Potsdam alum.  The deadline for the 2010/2011 award is February 2, 2010.  Download an application.

Even after tragedy, still a time to believe

But with the stress and commotion of final projects and exams, the struggles of paying your tuition bills, the recent loss of a magical SUNY Potsdam friend in a tragic car accident as well as the everyday of a hectic college life, many students may be feeling more like Scrooge than Kris Kringle.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam students learn valuable lessons at Akwesasne Conference
Twenty-seven SUNY Potsdam education majors who will be completing field experiences and/or student teaching, as well as some who have an interest in the Salmon River Central School District (SRCSD), recently attended the "Akwesasne and New York State Teaching and Learning Standards Orientation Conference." The mission of the event was to learn more about the special aspects of teaching in a district with such a rich Native American heritage. The conference was held at the St. Regis Mohawk School in Hogansburg. The College's Teacher Opportunity Corps (TOC) and Teacher/Leader Quality Partnerships Program (TLQP) and the SRCSD sponsored this event.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam students inspired by best practices in teaching
Nineteen SUNY Potsdam students majoring in education recently participated in the Best Practices in Teaching Seminar, "Keys to Effective Teaching." The Teacher Opportunity Corps (TOC) and the School of Education and Professional Studies at SUNY Potsdam sponsored the event.  (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam students produce EPA manual
Two SUNY Potsdam Environmental Studies students attended the EPA Region 2 Indian Leaders meeting in Syracuse, November 18, where their draft manual on collecting household hazardous waste was critiqued. Ian Isler and Michelle Davis attended the meeting in order to observe the feedback process from the Tribal Leaders. Several SUNY Potsdam students assisted the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe's Solid Waste Project Manager, Laura Weber, in creating a tribal guide under an EPA grant. The tribal guide will be geared toward managing household hazardous wastes (HHW).  (Read more)
