College Headlines

SUNY Potsdam names new dean for the Crane School of Music
SUNY Potsdam has named Dr. Michael Sitton, current Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University, to fill the post of dean of The Crane School of Music, effective July 1. (Read more)

Award-winning author and historian Jason Emerson to give Lincoln lecture
Jason Emerson, an award-winning historian and author from SUNY Potsdam’s Class of 1999, will return to SUNY Potsdam to give a public lecture titled “Lincoln the Inventor: The Story and Influence of His Mechanical Mind,” on Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m. in the Barrington Student Union. (Read more)

Learn how a Potsdam education can lead to making music for Presidents
SUNY Potsdam alumnus Colonel Thomas H. Palmatier, Class of 1975, commander and conductor of the acclaimed United States Army Field Band of Washington, D.C., will present a lecture for the public on Monday, March 9, at 11 a.m. in the Wakefield Recital Hall located in the Crane Complex. (Read more)

SUNY Potsdam alumnus brings his breakthrough microorganism control technology to Potsdam
SUNY Potsdam 1975 alumnus Dr. Anthony Brennan, professor of material science and engineering at the University of Florida and founder of Sharklet Technology, will present an open lecture about his research on Friday, March 6, at noon in SUNY Potsdam’s Stowell Hall, room 211. (Read more)

650 SUNY Potsdam Students get money and food items donated for Relay for Life
More than $500 for Relay for Life and more than 600 food items for local pantries were recently collected from the nearly 650 SUNY Potsdam students who kicked up their heels at the recent Residence Hall Association Snow Ball. (Read more)

Incredibly rare recording of Crane Chorus now part of SUNY Potsdam archives
The latest fashions, electronic gadgets and collectible items are all popular picks on eBay, but no one suspected an extraordinary piece of history from SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music would be offered there. In fact, many never even knew it existed at all until a Crane librarian stumbled upon it while looking for old recordings. (Read more)

"Two and a Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre to speak at SUNY undergrad Commencement
Award-winning television show creator, executive producer and writer Chuck Lorre will receive an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the State University of New York at SUNY Potsdam’s Bachelor’s Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 17, in recognition of his contributions to the entertainment industry and his work to support healthcare opportunities for the less fortunate. Potsdam alumna endows scholarship to help women obtain internship Opportunities
SUNY Potsdam’s alumna Diana (Zinnecker) Nole ’87 recently established and will endow the Diana Zinnecker Nole Internship Scholarship to encourage female SUNY Potsdam students majoring in computer science, mathematics or the sciences to pursue off-campus internship opportunities that will enrich their educational experience.
