Here are a few of the weekend’s highlights: Recognition of Coach Jerry Welsh and the 25th and 30th Anniversary of the Potsdam Men’s Basketball NCAA Championships
Come to the Welcome Reception at the Knowles MPR on Friday, July 15 at 4:30 p.m. to see Coach Welsh and celebrate the 25th and 30th Anniversaries of the men’s basketball teams’ NCAA Championships. During this reception, we will acknowledge team members and Coach Welsh for this incredible time in SUNY Potsdam’s basketball history!
Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon
Celebrate the careers of the 2011 Hall of Fame Class on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in the Knowles MPR. This year’s inductees include: Renee Hatter Hook ’86 (Swimming), Jodie Schoppmann ’06 (Cross Country) and Kregg Bruno (Wrestling). Come celebrate and share your Potsdam Pride!
New This Year - Gala Reception, Award Presentation and Silent Auction!
Join us Saturday evening in the Student Union MPR at 5 p.m. to celebrate with Potsdam alumni, faculty and friends of the College. This is our biggest event of the weekend and there will be a cash bar with hors d’oeuvres provided by PACES. Come celebrate, reconnect, talk and have a great time at this new and exciting Reunion Weekend event!
Annual Association Meeting Notice
The annual Alumni Association business will be conducted on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at 9 a.m., including the approval of the 2011-12 trustees and proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws.

SUNY Potsdam Alumna Elected President of SUNY Student Assembly
SUNY Potsdam alumna Kaitlyn Beachner has been elected as SUNY Student Assembly President, and was sworn in as the newest member of the SUNY Board of Trustees on June 1st. Beachner got her start in student government at SUNY Potsdam, where she served as Student Government Association President in 2007-08, before earning bachelor’s degrees in history and anthropology.

Four SUNY Potsdam Alumni Association Scholarships Awarded
SUNY Potsdam’s Alumni Association has named four outstanding students as recipients of its highly competitive scholarship. In order to be considered for the scholarship, an individual must be the child, grandchild or parent of a SUNY Potsdam graduate and be nominated by an alumnus or alumna of the College. (Read More)
SUNY Potsdam Unveils First BFA in Creative Writing in SUNY System
Offered through the College’s Department of English & Communication, the bachelor’s of fine arts program will offer students a concentrated experience in all aspects of creative writing, from intermediate and advanced courses in poetry, fiction, screenwriting, creative non-fiction and playwriting, to courses in professional writing. Students will be required to read extensively in literature and register for a pre-professional internship, as well as completing a senior thesis.

Crane School of Music Honors Anniversary of Founder's Death
The Crane School of Music honored the 88th anniversary of the death of its founder, Julia Etta Crane. The memorial service was held on Saturday, June 11, in the Bayside Cemetery, Potsdam, beside Julia’s grave. There were readings and a wreath laid, and participants sang Julia’s favorite song, “Annie Laurie.” (Read More) |
