Reunion Weekend 2012
The weekend schedule, registration information and a list of registered alumni and friends can be found online. Printed materials can be found in the spring issue of the alumni magazine, Potsdam People. Remember, registration for Reunion is Free through June 30th!
 
We look forward to seeing you in July! All attendees MUST Register!

Here are a few of the weekend’s highlights: 

  • Recital with Lisa Vroman ’79 and Dean of The Crane School of Music, Dr. Michael Sitton
    The recital takes place in Snell Hall, 8:15 p.m., Saturday, July 14. Tickets are $15.00 (benefiting The Crane School of Music) and available by contacting the Alumni Relations Office at (315) 267-2120. During this event, Lisa will receive an Honorary Degree from SUNY.

  • Student Activities Gathering
    Join Emeritus Dean of Students Dan Hurley ’54 with alumni and students from SGA, SES, the Racquette and more! This event will take place on Friday, July 13, 2 - 4 p.m. in the Barrington Student Union.

  • CSTEP’s 25th Anniversary
    Come to the CSTEP Office (Sisson 216) for their open house on Friday afternoon, July 13, from 4:30 - 6 p.m.

  • Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon
    Celebrate the careers of the 2012 Hall of Fame Class on Saturday, July 14, at 11:30 a.m. in the Knowles MPR. This year’s inductees include Kelly O’Donnell Warren ’93 (swimming), Nathan Sunday ’01 (hockey) and Howie Vandermast ’88 (hockey). Come celebrate and share your Potsdam Pride!

  • Gala Reception & Alumni Award Presentations
    Join us in congratulating the 2012 Alumni Award winners on Saturday, July 14, at 5 p.m. in the Barrington Student Union Lobby. Minerva Award: Lynne Boles ’74; Distinguished Service Award: Gary Jaquay ’67; Honorary Lifetime Membership: Col. Michael Colburn, Michael Lewis; Rising Star Award: Melissa Wegner ’03; Helen M. Hosmer Excellence in Music Teaching Award: Scott P. LaVine ’71; St. Lawrence Academy Medal: Kathy White Finnerty ’75

Annual Association Meeting Notice
The Annual Alumni Association business will be conducted on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at 9 a.m., including the approval of the 2012-13 trustees and proposed amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws.

Event Photos Available Online
Photos from various events, such as 2012 Commencement and the May 1 performance of Verdi’s Requiem in NYC, are available for viewing and purchase through SUNY Potsdam’s new Flickr account. (Flickr is an online photo sharing site.) This is the first time we have used this service and we’re hoping to use it for future events, so let us know what you think!

College Headlines

SUNY Potsdam to Award Lisa Vroman Honorary Doctorate
SUNY Potsdam alumna Lisa Vroman ’79 has sung on stages across the globe, from Abu Dhabi to Broadway, not to mention the Hollywood Bowl, Kuala Lumpur, Las Vegas and Paris. But this summer, the famed soprano will return to the stage where her performing career began at The Crane School of Music. And this time, she will add another degree from her alma mater to her long list of accolades—the Honorary Doctorate in Music.

SUNY Potsdam Honors CSTEP and Teacher Opportunity Corps Graduates
The SUNY Potsdam Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program and the Teacher Opportunity Corps recently honored more than 30 graduates at a reception at the home of Christine and John Lancaster. (Read More)

SUNY Potsdam President Quizzed on Radio for Piano Puzzler
SUNY Potsdam President Dr. John F. Schwaller was featured on American Public Media’s “Performance Today” program on May 23, in its “Piano Puzzler” segment. Dr. Schwaller was chosen as a contestant for the “Piano Puzzler” segment, which challenges listeners to figure out what tune pianist Bruce Adolphe is playing, and in the style of which composer. (Read More)

SUNY Potsdam & SUNY Canton Hire Joint Veteran's Affairs Officer
As the Veteran’s Affairs Officer, Patrick Massaro will be the primary point of contact for military families and serve as an advisor to the veteran’s organizations on each campus. This is the first joint hire to result from the ongoing shared services discussions between SUNY Potsdam’s and SUNY Canton’s Campus Alliance Network.

The Crane School of Music to Welcome Conductor Gunther Schuller
Crane will host a distinguished musical guest this fall—one of the world’s greatest conductors and composers. The innovative musician Gunther Schuller will work with Crane students over the course of a week as a visiting guest artist-in-residence in November. Schuller, one of the most influential Americans in music history, will visit campus from Nov. 10 to Nov. 15. (Read More)
