Three Potsdam men's soccer players named to all-conference teams

POTSDAM, N.Y.?SUNY Potsdam men's soccer players Eduardo Figueroa (Rochester, N.Y./Dr. Freddie Thomas), Alessio Vitale (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Alex Minsker (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) each earned all-conference recognition the State University of New York Athletic Conference announced earlier today. Figueroa and Vitale were named to the SUNYAC's second team, while Minsker grabbed a spot on the third team.

Figueroa, the Bears' all-time leading scorer, led the team in scoring for his third straight season this year. The junior forward played in all 19 games with 17 starts, scoring six goals and recording four assists for 16 points. In his career, Figueroa has 24 goals and 11 assists for 59 points. As a freshman, he was also named to the All-SUNYAC second team and last season was a first team selection.

Vitale had a career year for Potsdam. He was second on the team in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points. The senior midfielder closes his Bears' career with nine goals and eight assists for 26 points in 55 games. Vitale was a third team All-SUNYAC pick last season.

This season is Minsker's first all-conference nod. The junior midfielder totaled a personal best three goals and five assists for 11 points in 14 games. Minsker got red hot during Potsdam's playoff push, recording 10 of his 11 points in the Bears' final five games of the season. He has four goals and eight assists for 16 points in 42 career games.

"I am pleased that the effort of these guys was rewarded by the conference coaches," said Potsdam Head Coach Adam Parker. " It's a good way for Alessio to end his career and I hope Eduardo and Alex can build on this as we work towards next season."

2013 was a standout year for the Bears' men's soccer program. Potsdam was 9-9-1 overall, matching the program's single season record of nine wins set in 1983 (9-6). The Bears reached the SUNYAC playoffs for the second time in three seasons and just the third time in the team's existence.
