Bears softball team spends day of service at Trinity Church community dinner

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Last night, the SUNY Potsdam softball team joined Potsdam administrator Toby White in assisting with Trinity Church's community supper in the church's Parish Hall. The Bears' participated in the dinner as part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service initiative.

The community dinner is one that the church holds every month for less fortunate local residents. The players and coaching staff helped set up and serve the meal for between 50-60 diners and then cleaned up afterwards.

“It was a good experience,” said Potsdam's senior captain Heather Johnson. “It was nice to help people and to have the team together in a non-softball setting. We enjoyed it and its something the team is going to do every year from now on.”

The Bears open their 2013 campaign with a doubleheader against the Lyndon State Hornets on Friday, March 1, at the Adirondack Sports Complex Dome in Queensbury, N.Y. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
