Duffy, Olschewske each earn Goalie of the Week honors
POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam lacrosse goalies Ryan Duffy (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) were each honored by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their play during the week ending March 23. Duffy earned the conference's Goalie of the Week honor for the men for the second time in three weeks and Olschewske garners the women's award for the first time in her young career.
Duffy made a career-high 16 saves to help Potsdam edge Morrisville 5-3 on last Wednesday, posting a .842 save percentage in the contest. He followed it up with another strong showing on Saturday, stopping 10 shots as the Bears came up just short in a 7-5 loss to Kean University. Duffy is 3-2 this season with a 6.22 goals-against-average and a SUNYAC-leading 6.45 save percentage.
Olschewske made her collegiate debut in dramatic fashion on Friday. Getting the starting nod in goal against SUNY Canton, the freshman made 20 saves to help Potsdam to a 10-8 victory over the Kangaroos. The 20 stops were the most by a Bear goalie in three seasons.
Potsdam's women's lacrosse team (2-2) is in action tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. in West Palm Beach as they take on Concordia University of Wisconsin in the first round of the Spring Fling Tournament. The men's team (3-2) hosts Utica College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Maxcy Turf Field.
