Smith named Maxcy Hall Facilities Manager
POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam Athletic Director James Zalacca has announce the hiring of Dustin Smith as Maxcy Hall's Facilities Manager. Smith replaces Jamey Hoose who was recently named Director of Clarkson University's Cheel Campus Center.
Smith comes to Potsdam after a variety of sports and events management experiences. He served as the rink manager for the East Coast Hockey League's Elmira Jackals at First Arena for a season. There he gained experience in ice maintenance and pregame protocol. He was also in charge of scheduling for the venue's community events and created marketing campaigns to attract new fans and business.
Smith also gained experience in public and media relations. He was the public relations intern at Watkins Glen International Speedway in the Spring and Summer of 2010 as well as holding the same position with the Syracuse Crunch the previous winter.
In addition to his other skills, Smith also worked as a media services technician with Corning Incorporated. He managed technology for Corning's onsite events and produced corporate videos with the company's marketing executives.
Smith briefly attended SUNY Potsdam where he worked under Hoose as a member of the student events management staff. He enjoyed the experience so much that he transferred to Cazenovia College to study sport management and pursue a career in facilities operations.
Smith received his associate's degree in sport and events management from North Country Community College in 2007. He earned his bachelor's in sport management from Cazenovia in 2010 and his master's in management from Keuka College in 2013.
Dustin, a Potsdam native, resides in town with his wife Andrea.
