Men's lacrosse alumni return to honor Coach Berkman's 20th season
POTSDAM, N.Y.—Nearly 70 former SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse players returned to Maxcy Turf field last weekend to participate in the Bears' annual alumni game. The large turnout was to honor veteran head coach Rick Berkman's 20th season, in addition to celebrate individual playing careers.
The current Bears squared off with 68 of their predecessors on Saturday afternoon. According to the alumni, they handily defeated this year's team, although the scoreboard told a different story.
After the game, Berkman was presented with a framed Potsdam jersey #20. In his Potsdam tenure, the Bears coach has garnered 122 wins, 12 SUNYAC playoff appearances in 15 seasons, an Empire Lacrosse League Conference title in 1997 and a berth in the SUNYAC Championship game in 2011. Berkman was also named the 2007 and 2011 SUNYAC Coach of the Year. He has presided over five All-Americans, two SUNYAC Players of the Year and numerous all-conference selections.
Potsdam opens its 2014 campaign with a March 1 showdown against Skidmore College at 3:30 p.m. in Saratoga Springs.
