ONEONTA, N.Y.—Oneonta State (8-3-1, 4-1 SUNYAC) scored a goal in the second minute and the 90th minute to open and close a 4-0 SUNYAC victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-10, 0-4) on Friday afternoon. Karly DeSimone scored twice for the Red Dragons.

Oneonta struck just 1:08 into the contest. Kayla Brantmeyer found DeSimone for a header goal to put the Red Dragons up 1-0. Oneonta continued to pressure Potsdam for the rest of the half, but freshman goalie Shannon Weader kept the Red Dragons off the board for the rest of the period with seven saves.

Bears freshman goalie Jamie Durant relieved Weader at the start of the second half and faced intense pressure from the outset. Oneonta doubled its advantage in the 54th minute as Alaina Greco scored from the left side of the box. Less than two minutes later DeSimone struck again, with another header off a Brantmeyer cross to make it 3-0. The Red Dragons never let up and tacked on a fourth goal with just 47 seconds left. Caitlyn LaPier fed Liz Lasota in front for the final tally.

Durant matched Weader's seven saves in her 45 minutes. Oneonta goalie Kelley Murphy earned the victory with two saves in the first half. Becky Fildes and Rori Stark split time in goal for the Red Dragons during the final period without facing a shot.

“We certainly didn't make it easy on ourselves by allowing a goal in the first minute and the last minute,” said Bears Head Coach Mark Misiak. “When you allow goals at those times it's tough to win games. Our injuries aren't an excuse, but they make things all the more difficult. Still, we've been able to create some quality chances against good conference opponents, an area where we struggled last year. I think that shows that we're headed in the right direction.”

The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to New Paltz for a 1 p.m. battle with the Hawks.
