Bears split season opener


POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams split in their season opener versus Skidmore College. The Bears men downed the Thoroughbreds 163-131, while the women fell, 185-104.

Three Bears led the men's team on the day. Junior Richie Zimmerman won the 200 free (1:52.89), 200 breaststroke (2:00.35), 200 IM (2:05.15) and was on the winning 200 medley relay (1:43.67). Freshman Tyler Zapisek capture the victories in the 50 free (22.95), 100 butterfly (55.69) and was on the 200 medley relay team. Senior Alexander Taylor added wins in the 1000 free (10:42.41), 500 free (5:02.23), and 100 free (50.04). Freshman Chris Carlini, junior Jeremy Rose, senior Marcus Domfort and sophomore Dan Costa each contributed in their respective events.

Junior Ghena Binzer paced the women with wins in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.43), 200 breaststroke (2:44.26) and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay (2:00.26) with teammates senior Paige Montroy, senior Liz Ringer, and freshman Jackie Cunningham. Senior Kylie Barr finished a close second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.84) and the 200 breaststroke (2:45.26) to teammate, Binzer.

The Bears return to the pool Saturday, Nov. 3 for their dual meet against Norwich University at 1 p.m.
