Swimming and diving sweeps Norwich
POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams rolled past Norwich University in their second dual meet of the season this afternoon at Maxcy Hall Pool. The Bears' men edged the Cadets 152-140, while the women breezed to a 149-70 victory.
Potsdam's men were led by three triple-winners. Senior Alexander Taylor, freshman Tyler Zapisek, sophomore Daniel Costa and junior Richie Zimmerman captured the 400 medley relay in 3:47.94. Taylor followed the performance with solo victories in the 200 freestyle (1:50.67) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.79), while Zapisek won the 100 butterfly (0:55.24) and 100 freestyle (0:51.91). Costa got his second and third victories in the 50 (0:26.63) and 100 (0:59.86) backstroke events. Zimmerman also won a solo victory in the 50 freestyle (0:23.05)
Sophomore Emily Kanoza and junior Ghena Binzer led the women with two solo wins each. Kanoza won the 1,000 (12:03.78) and 50 (0:27.40) freestyle events. Binzer swam to victory in the 50 (0:34.35) and 100 (1:14.32) breaststroke events. Seniors Paige Montroy, Kylie Barr and Liz Ringer and freshmen Jackie Cunningham combined to win the 400 medley relay (4:32.39). The four each one a solo event of their own as well.
The Bears hit the road next weekend for a dual meet at Brockport on Nov. 10, at 2 p.m.
