Bears split at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams split in their first road contest of the season at Brockport Saturday afternoon. The men swam past the Golden Eagles 170-101, while the women fell 166-85.

The Potsdam men's team was led by senior Alexander Taylor and junior Richie Zimmerman, as each recorded three individuals victories. Taylor posted wins in the 1,000 free (10:55.09), 500 free (4:58.94) and the 100 breaststroke (1:01.45). Zimmerman added wins in the 200 free (1:51.42), 200 breaststroke (2:19.62), and the difficult 400 IM (4:28.59). Freshman Tyler Zapisek added two first place finishes in the 50 free (22.75) and 100 free (49.91). Sophomore Dan Costa rounded out the top Potsdam swimmers with a sweep of the 100 back (57.45) and 200 back (2:08.24).

Three women posted top times for the Bears. Sophomore Emily Kanoza closed out the 500 free with a time of 5:47.06. Senior Paige Montroy finished the 100 butterfly in 1:17.76. Sophomore Victoria Blakeslee touched the wall with a time of 5:13.55 in the 400 IM. Kanoza and Blakeslee were joined by teammates Jackie Cunningham and Ghena Binzer to post a time of 1:50.46 in the 200 free relay.

The Bears return to Maxcy Hall Pool as they host the North Country Invitational on Nov. 16-17. The meet is set to start at 4 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
