ELMIRA, N.Y.—The fourth-ranked Elmira Soaring Eagles (6-0-1, 5-0) gained a measure of revenge against the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (1-5, 1-3) on Friday night, hammering the Bears 8-0. It was the first meeting between the two teams since Potsdam eliminated Elmira from the playoffs last season with a 2-1 win. Jocelynne Hudgins, Ashton Hogan and Ashley Ryan each recorded two goals and one assist for the soaring Eagles.

Elmira wasted no time getting the first of three opening period goals just 53 seconds into the game. Caitlin Metcalf made it 2-0 1:14 later. Hudgins notched her first of the night at 7:33 and the Soaring Eagles carried the 3-0 lead into the intermission.

The Bears held off Elmira through the first half of the second period. However, the Soaring Eagles exploded for four more goals in six-minute span to put the game away. Hudgins got her second at 10:17 followed by a Taylor Steadman strike 55 seconds later. Hogan scored 34 seconds after that and Ryan notched her second at 16:28 to make it 7-0.

Elmira kept up the pressure in the third period and Hogan tacked on the final tally of the night at 7:10.

In goal, junior Dawna Salvarinas made 30 saves, while Lauren Sullivan stopped 17 shots to earn the shutout.

The Soaring Eagles outshout Potsdam 38-17 and were 0-3 on the power play. Potsdam finished 0-1 on the man advantage.

While admitting his team faced a tall task, Bears Head Coach Jay Green was not happy with the result.

“Elmira is extremely strong,” said Green. “That being said, we're just not putting forth necessary effort right now. We have to work on that heading into to tomorrow.”

Potsdam gets another shot at Elmira tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
