Taylor sets new record at North Country Invite


POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams hosted Oneonta State, Monroe Community College, and Clarkson University for the North Country Invitational on Nov. 16-17. Oneonta claimed the men and women's team titles, while the Bears' men's and women's teams finished third.

Three Bears led the men's team during the two-day North Country Invite. Senior Alexander Taylor posted a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.10) and set a new school record in the grueling 400 IM with a time of 4:17.51. Junior Richie Zimmerman claimed a first place finish in the 200 IM (2:01.45) and swam a time of 1:58.5 in the 200 backstroke, just 0:00.5 seconds (1:58.0) behind Scott Morrell's 1983 record. Freshman Tyler Zapisek posted wins in the 50 free (22.72) and 100 free (49.81). Sophomore Dan Costa joined Taylor, Zapisek, and Zimmerman to earn a first place finish in the 400 free relay in a time of 3:18.30. For the women's team, the group of Paige Montroy, Ghena Binzer, Liz Ringer, and Jackie Cunningham posted a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:00.95.

The Bears are back in the pool on Nov. 30- Dec. 2, when they travel to Fredonia for the Fredonia Invitational.
