ITHACA N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-4) fell 5-0 to 12th ranked Ithaca College (6-0) on the road Saturday afternoon. Senior Julie Winn scored twice for the Bombers.
Senior Rachel Palladino was the first to score for the Bombers at the 16:19 mark, off of a pass from Winn. Winn soon buried a shot in the back of the net to give Ithaca a 2-0 lead going into the half.
Ithaca continued the pressure in the second half. Winn received her second goal of the game on a penalty kick at 60:02. Four minutes later, freshman Kelsey King drilled a shot that put the Bombers up 4-0. At the 72:57 mark, Ithaca freshman Angelica Romeu scored the final goal of the game capping off the 5-0 win.
In goal, freshman Jaime Durant played the entire game for the Bears, turning away 19 shots and allowing five goals. Senior Becca Salant played 74 minutes for the Bombers and finished with one save. Junior Becca Lewis was in goal for the final nine minutes and didn't face a shot.
"I couldn't be prouder of the girls in their effort," said Bears Head Coach Mark Misiak. "It's been four games in a row that we've played some really difficult opponents, including some that are nationally ranked. To go to Ithaca and play against a team that was in the Final Four last year was a neat experience for the girls. This will benefit us as we head into conference play. I thought Jamie Durant had an amazing match today and made some incredible saves."
Potsdam is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16 as the Bears travel to Utica for a 1 p.m. start.
