POTSDAM, N.Y. – SUNY Potsdam Swimming and Diving Coach Ken McLaughlin has announced the appointment of Brittany Berrus '11 as the Bears' assistant coach for the 2012-2013 season.
“Brittany brings a wealth of innovative and refreshing concepts for swimming technique and strength training,” said McLaughlin. “She is a good people person and is already a very helpful contributor to the program.”
Berrus began her collegiate career at Potsdam in the spring of 2009 after transferring. The swimmer had an impressive career with the Bears. In her two seasons at Potsdam, she was a SUNYAC finalist in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, and the 200 and 400 free relays. Berrus was a member of the 200 and 400 free relay teams, which set school records during her senior season. Her career accolades as a student-athlete continued outside of the pool as she was selected to the 2011 SUNYAC All-Academic Team.
Berrus graduated from SUNY Potsdam with a bachelor's degree in sociology with a minor in psychology. While at Potsdam, she received several academic honors, which include President's List and Alpha Kappa Delta honor society. Following graduation, Berrus served as a long-term substitute teacher, a pool director and varsity swimming official before becoming a member of the Bears staff.
Potsdam opens its 2012-13 campaign with a home dual meet with Skidmore College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
