Talarico named SUNYAC Goalie of the Week
POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam hockey player Shane Talarico (Greensburg, Pa./Elmira College) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference's Goalie of the Week for the week ending January 5.
Talarico's stellar play helped the Bears to a weekend sweep of Division II rival Saint Anselm College. On Friday, the senior made a season-high 32 saves as Potsdam topped the Hawks 5-2. Talarico turned aside another 28 shots on Saturday as the Bears held on for the 2-1 win. His 60 saves on 63 shots gave him a 1.50 goals-against-average and .952 save percentage for the weekend.
This season, the goaltender is a perfect 4-0, with victories in three straight starts. He has lowered his G.A.A. to 2.12 and is tied for 11th in the nation with a save percentage of .932. This is Talarico's second time earning the honor. He was also the conference's goalie of the week on Jan. 11, 2013.
The Bears are back in action with non-conference games against Castleton State on Friday and Skidmore College on Saturday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
