Bears swimming and diving team splits with Clarkson

The Potsdam swimming and diving teams took the light travel route around the corner from campus over to Clarkson University and picked up a split in a dual meet with the Golden Knights.

The women won 167-101 while the men fell 163-115.  It marks the fourth time this season that the Bears have split a pair in dual meet competition.

The Potsdam women won the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 2:14.60.  The team consisted of junior Emily Kanoza (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee), senior Ghena Binzer (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker), junior Victoria Blakeslee (Gloversville, N.Y. / Gloversville) and freshman Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y . / Greene).

Yeager was a double winner as she swam to a win in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.63.

Freshman Kristin Canjura (Wilton, N.Y. / Saratoga Springs) took the 800-meter freestyle in 10:10.01 as well as the 400 freestyle in 4:54.41, freshman Stephanie Havens (Oneonta, N.Y. / Oneonta) won the 200 freestyle (2:24.36), Binzer earned first place in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.82).

Fresh off her three event wins from six days earlier, senior Laurissa Coombs (Port Jefferson, N.Y. / Ward Melville) followed that up by taking the 200 butterfly in 2:44.63.  Kira Wood was victorious in the 50 freestyle (30.13), freshman Heather Lian (Hopewell, N.Y. / John Jay) picked up a win in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 227.15 points.

Sophomore Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee) won the men's 50 freestyle (25.01) and 100 freestyle (56.22), freshman Tim Knapp (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) picked up a win in the 1-meter diving event with 247.20 points.  Richie Zimmerman won the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.31 and the 200 individual medley in 2:20.78.

The men's 200 relay team of Dan Costa, Ricky Blackburn, Zapisek and Zimmerman was first with a time of 1:41.72.

Potsdam will host Saint Michael's Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. from Maxcy Hall Pool in a dual meet.
