Continentals skate past Bears

CLINTON, N.Y.—Hamilton College (1-2) scored three third period goals to down the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (2-4-1) 5-2 in a non-conference road contest on Tuesday night. Senior captain Brittany Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators) and freshman forward Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Rochester Edge) each scored for the Bears.

The Continentals opened the contest with good pressure, outshooting Potsdam 17-8. However, freshman forward Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./North Country Ice Storm) turned away each of Hamilton's shots in the first 20 minutes. It was the Bears jumping on the board late in the period. At the 18:15 mark, Lucky struck on a pass from senior forward Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) and Potsdam entered the intermission up 1-0.

Both defenses cut down on the shots in the second period, but the scoring increased. Just over five minutes into the middle stanza Hannah Jaiven tied the score on a pass from Hannah Bartlett. Eight minutes later, Ott scored her fourth of the year to put the Bears back up 2-1. At 18:07, Ianthe Lekometros evened the score for Hamilton again with an assist from Stephanie Lang.

Potsdam took a charging penalty early in the third and Lang scored her first goal seven seconds later. Jill Tokarczyk and Naomi Woolfenden each assisted on the power-play marker. Less than 90 seconds later, Gigi Fraser made it 4-2 with a helper from Katie Parkman. Lang notched her second with 2:45 to go on an assist from Maddie Carras.

Tardelli finished with 35 stops for the Bears, while Continental goaltender Sarah Schuchardt earned the victory with 14 saves. Hamilton was 1-4 on the power play and Potsdam was 0-2.

The Bears are back in action when they head to Cortland for a weekend series. Potsdam faces the Red Dragons at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
