Men's Basketball Weekend Preview

POTSDAM, NY- The men’s basketball team will host two SUNYAC contests this weekend as they will play New Paltz and Oneonta. The New Paltz game will be Friday night at 8 pm and the Oneonta game will be Saturday afternoon at 4 pm.

The Bears are 2-13 overall (1-8 in SUNYAC). They lost to Plattsburgh 94-75 on Tuesday night. Three Bears are averaging in double figures led by Anthony Williams Jr. at 13.2 points a game. He also has a team leading 14 blocks. Curtis Pierce is averaging 12.8 points a game and leads in rebounds with 92. Ben Walker is averaging 10.2 points a game and has a team high 27 steals.

New Paltz is 8-6 overall (4-4 in SUNYAC). They lost to Oswego 70-54 on Tuesday. Jayquan Anderson leads the team in points averaging 16.9 a game. Shereef Taylor (16 points/game) is the team leader in steals with 30, rebounds with 84, and blocks with 19. Oppong Agyemang leads the teams in assists with 98.

The teams split last season with New Paltz winning in Potsdam 61-58 and the Bears winning in New Paltz 74-71.

Oneonta is 12-4 overall (5-4 in SUNYAC). They lost to Cortland on Tuesday 66-61 in overtime. Micheal Grimes leads the team in scoring averaging 15.8 points a game. Brian Beckford (14.3 points/game) leads the team in blocks with 36, steals with 30, and rebounds with 137. Troy Talbot has a team leading 52 assists.

The Bears dropped both games to the Red Dragons last season falling 88-80 in Potsdam and 78-65 in Oneonta.
