Men's Basketball Falls in Exhibition

POTSDAM, NY- Eddie Cross (Loudonville/Shaker) had 18 points to lead the men’s basketball team as they fell to the visiting Algonquin Thunder 75-71 in a Monday night exhibition game at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.

Also scoring in double figures were Benjamin Walker (New Smyrna Beach, FL/North Country CC) with 16 points and Anthony Williams (Brentwood/Upper Room Christian Academy) with 12 points. Williams also had six rebounds and four steals.

The Bears led 39-33 at halftime but the Thunder came back to take the lead with 8:19 to play in the second half. A late 8-2 run by Potsdam got them to within three points with 41 seconds left and a layup by Olando Minott (Bronx, NY/Samuel Gompers) got them to within two with seven seconds to play. Algonquin raced down the court and Njuguna Waiganjo dunked with two seconds to play to give the Thunder the victory.

The Bears begin regular season play this coming Sunday as they go on the road to face Utica at 4 pm.
