POTSDAM, NY- The men’s hockey team added a late goal with 50 seconds left in the game but it was not enough as visiting Geneseo won 3-2 on Saturday night at Maxcy Hall Arena.
The Bears had a couple chances early in the first period to take the lead but were denied. Geneseo took the lead on a power play and the Bears tied it up later on when Patrick Choules’ (Bradford, ONT/Kahnawake Condors) shot was tipped in by Todd Hosmer (Scarborough, ONT/Newmarket Hurricanes) for the goal.
The Ice Knights took the lead on another power play 3:21 into the second period. The Bears had a chance to tie it up but Colin MacLennan’s (Whitby, ONT/Ajax Attack) shot bounced out from the corner of the goal.
The game remained 2-1 until Geneseo added an empty net goal with just over a minute remaining. Connor Treacy (Markham, ONT/Markham Waxers) got the Bears to within a one goal deficit when he scored, but Geneseo held off the Potsdam rally.
Trevor O’Neill (Keswick, ONT/Stoufville Spirit) had 21 saves in goal for the Bears. Adrian Rubeniuk had 30 saves for the Ice Knights.
The Bears host Oswego next Friday night at 7 pm.
