Parker to lead SUNY Potsdam men's soccer program

07.07.10

Adam Parker, who guided the North Country Community College men’s soccer program to a 31-17-2 record for the last three seasons, will take over as head men’s soccer coach at SUNY Potsdam, effective this fall.

Parker brings a wealth of SUNYAC experience and familiarity with the area to the position. He takes over for Joe Vaadi, who coached the Bears for the last 13 seasons.

"We're extremely delighted that Adam has agreed to coach our men's soccer program,” athletic director James Zalacca said. “In what was clearly a highly qualified, tremendously talented pool of candidates, his history of success, knowledge of SUNYAC and ability to recruit student-athletes separated him from the pack. We look forward to reaping the benefits of his knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport of soccer."

In 2009, Parker led the Saints to their second Region III Tournament final in school history and No. 6 final ranking in the National NJCAA poll with a 15-3-1 record. The Saints also won their first-ever Mountain Valley Conference Championship with a 7-0-1 record. Parker was recognized as the Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year as well as the NJCAA Region III Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

In Parker’s three seasons at North Country, he coached three NSCAA All-Americans, eight NJCAA All-Region Players, a NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Year and three NJCAA National Players of the Week. He helped promote five players to NCAA Division 1 and 2 universities as well as six others to NCAA Division 3 schools.

Prior to North Country, Parker held assistant positions with the Palm Beach Pumas and at SUNY Fredonia.

As a player, Parker played four years at SUNY Fredonia. At Fredonia, Parker played on four SUNYAC regular season championship teams. In 2000, he was named first team All-SUNYAC and first team NSCAA All-Region.

Following the conclusion of his collegiate career, Parker moved on to play for the Palm Beach Pumas in the Premier Development League (PDL). From 2003-2006, Parker led the team as a player/assistant coach. In 2006, he was named to the PDL’s Team of the Week.

Parker is an alumnus of SUNY Fredonia, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in economics in 2001 and received his master’s in interdisciplinary studies in 2007. In 2008, Parker attained a USSF “C” National Coaching License.

Parker resides in Saranac Lake, N.Y., with his wife Kristin.
