Buffalo State Defeats Men's Soccer

POTSDAM, NY- The men’s soccer team scored an early goal but it was not enough as visiting Buffalo State scored four unanswered goals as they defeated the Bears 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Bears record is now 3-11-1.

Matt Rudd (Rodman/South Jefferson) scored the Potsdam goal in the 7th minute on an assist from Greg Bennett (Buffalo/Kenmore West). Brandon Loncar scored three goals to lead the Bengals.

The Bears had a chance to add a goal late in the second half but Tim Ciampa’s (Castleton/Maple Hill) shot was blocked by Buffalo State defender Steve Fox to prevent the score. A few minutes later, Bennett took a shot that was swatted out by Bengal goalkeeper Brian MacDiarmid.

Colin MacIver (Westport/Westport) had the start in goal for the Bears and made two saves. Joseph Glackin (Latham/Shaker) came in the second half and also had two saves. Brian Dudek started for the Bengals and made five saves and MacDiarmid came in for the last 4:05 of the game and did not record a save.

The teams were nearly even in shots with Buffalo State holding a slight 15-13 advantage. The Bears had seven shots on goal while the Bengals had eight. The teams were even with six corner kicks each.

The Bears conclude their 2009 season on the road against Plattsburgh next Saturday. Game time is 3 pm.
