Women's Basketball Weekend Preview

POTSDAM, NY- The women’s basketball team will host two SUNYAC games this weekend as they host New Paltz on Friday night and Oneonta on Saturday afternoon. Friday’s game starts at 6 pm while Saturday’s game starts at 2 pm. The Bears are 3-13 overall (2-7 in SUNYAC). They defeated Plattsburgh on Tuesday night 80-73. Three players are averaging in double figures led by Cortney Poirier at 14.7 points a game. She is also the team leader in rebounds with 100 and steals with 45. Aimee Kellicutt is averaging 12.5 points a game and is the leader in assists with 42. Her three-point percentage of 42.9 % is best on the team. Rachel Graf is averaging 11.2 points and is the team leader in free throw percentage at 92.6 %. New Paltz is 9-7 overall (6-3 in SUNYAC). They lost to Oswego on Tuesday 45-43. Maggie Farrell leads the team in points averaging 11.9 points a game. Her 88 rebounds are tied for the team lead with Carly Minehan. Caitlin Irwin leads the team in steals with 41 and Nicole Sarcone leads in assists with 73. The Hawks took both games in the regular season last year winning in Potsdam 65-59 and in New Paltz 66-63. The teams met again in the SUNYAC quarterfinals with the Bears winning that game 62-61. Oneonta is 10-6 overall (8-1 in SUNYAC). Samantha Szkotak is the leading scorer as she is averaging 13.3 points a game. Rebecca Bucci (9.8 points/game) is the team leader in steals with 27 and rebounds with 88. Mary Kate O’Connell has a team high 21 blocks and Sara Chrystie leads in assists with 80. The teams split last season with the Red Dragons winning in Potsdam 74-62 and the Bears winning in Oneonta 60-49.
