Rochester, N.Y.—Third-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology (8-0, 6-0
ECAC West) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team for second day in
a row, this time by a 10-0 score. Three Tigers scored twice for RIT.
The Tigers took no time to get their offense heated up in the first
period. RIT fired 25 shots on Potsdam freshman goaltender Dawna Salvarinas
(Mississauga, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) in the opening period. The Tigers
finally broke through with power-play goals at 12:52 and 16:31 from Kim
Schlatman and Liz Gemmiti and RIT took the 2-0 advantage into the locker
room.
The Tigers didn’t let up in the second period, notching three more
markers, while keeping the Bears on the defensive for the entire period.
Gemmiti got her second of the contest less than three minutes in, Sarah
Dagg scored the 8:51 mark, and Hannah Epstein scored RIT’s fifth goal with
at 16:29 of the period.
The third period was no different as Tigers tacked on five more goals,
including two on the power play. Epstein scored her second of the contest
on the man-advantage at the 6:23 mark, Dagg struck again three minutes
later, and Megan Kohar made it 8-0 at 11:36. Kristina Moss netted RIT’s
fourth power-play goal at 16:38, and Kourtney Kunichika made it 10-0
Tigers with just over a minute to play.
Salvarinas made 62 saves for Potsdam, while Laura Chamberlain stopped nine
shots for RIT.
Potsdam (1-3, 1-3) is back in action on Nov. 23, when it travels to
Middlebury to take on the seventh-ranked Panthers at 7 p.m.
