Salve Regina-Potsdam Women’s Hockey Preview

POTSDAM, NY- The women’s hockey team begins their 2009-10 season this Saturday as they take on the Salve Regina Seahawks at 3pm.

The Bears were 4-17-2 last season (3-13-2 in ECAC West). Jay Green returns as coach for his second year. 16 players return from last year’s team including co-captains Courtney Laughlin and Stephanie Simons, alternate captains Monique Ganger and Annmarie Lewis, defender Breanna Roy, and goaltender Hilary Hitchman.

The Seahawks were 18-9-1 last season and lost in the ECAC East Championship. They return 14 players from last season including Molly Golden, who tied for third on the team with 26 points, as well as goaltender Rebecca Simmons, who posted an 11-8-1 mark with a 2.24 goals against average (GAA) and a .925 save percentage.

Following the women’s game, the men take to the ice as they will host Geneseo at 7 pm.
