Women's Hockey Slips to Hamilton

POTSDAM- The women’s hockey team held a three goal lead going into the final period of play but visiting Hamilton scored four goals to win 6-5 on Tuesday night at Maxcy Hall Arena. The Bears record is now 8-10-1.

Potsdam jumped out to an early lead in the first period. Kristine Faffley (Westmoreland/U-Mass Boston) tipped in a shot by Courtney Laughlin (Gambrills, MD/Princeton Tiger Lillies) for the Bears’ first goal of the game. Later on the power play, Katie Komsa (Sault Ste. Marie, ONT/Sault Ste Marie AA Midget) tipped in another shot to put the Bears on top 2-0 and 37 seconds after that Stephanie Dwyer (Stittsville, ONT/Kanata AA Midget) scored to make it 3-0 Potsdam. The Continentals scored their first goal of the game under a minute later to complete the scoring in the first period.

In the second period, Annmarie Lewis (Newmarket, ONT/Aurora Panthers) hooked up with Stephanie Simons (Stratford, ONT/Bluewater Hawks) to make it 4-1 Potsdam. After a second Hamilton goal, the Bears make it a three goal advantage again thanks to a Faffley score.

It was all Hamilton in the third period as they scored four goals with the game winning score coming with 7:02 to play in the game.

Hilary Hitchman (Potsdam/Oswego State) started in goal for the Bears and made 30 saves. Meg Shine started for Hamilton in goal and made three saves before giving way to Becca Hazlett who had 12 saves. She left as the beginning of the third period due to injury and was replaced by Lesley Ryder who had eight saves.

The Bears next head on the road for a crucial two game set with rival Neumann this weekend. Games on Saturday and Sunday are both at 3 pm.
