ROCHESTER, NY- The women’s hockey team faced the #7 ranked RIT Tigers and fell by the score of 6-2 on Friday afternoon.
It was 3-0 Tigers in the second period when Potsdam got on the board. With 3:45 left in the period on a two-man advantage, Courtney Laughlin (Gambrills, MD/Princeton Tiger Lillies) hit a slap-shot from the right boards that went off the stick of RIT goaltender Carley King and into the goal to make it 3-1 RIT going into the third period.
It was as close as the Bears could get as RIT added three more goals in the final period to take a 6-1 lead. Annmarie Lewis (Newmarket, ONT/Aurora Panthers) would later score on an assist from Katie Komsa (Sault Ste. Marie, ONT/Bluewater Hawks) to complete the scoring for the Bears.
Hilary Hitchman (Potsdam/Oswego State) had the start in goal and made 55 saves. Jen Conophy (Glenmont/Albany Ice Cats) came in the third period and made just three saves. King had 11 saves for RIT.
The Bears and Tigers play again tomorrow at 12 pm.
