2009 Alumni Game Announced

Women Upend Morrisville in Home Finale

POTSDAM, NY- The women’s lacrosse team played a tight contest with visiting Morrisville for most of the first period but pulled away in the second period for a 11-6 victory on Tuesday afternoon in the Bears home finale. With the win, the Bears improve their record to 7-6 (2-5 SUNYAC) while Morrisville falls to 4-8 (1-6 SUNYAC).

Molly Lehman-Lewis (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Bears in points.  Samantha Brown (Rochester/Eastridge) had two goals and one assist.  Naomi Flint (Georgetown, ONT/Georgetown), Allie Nettles (Carthage/Carthage), Kelsey Shoen (Waddington/Madrid-Waddington), Carly Richards (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, CT/Clinton), Aubrey Macintosh (Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake), and Joan McCabe (Watertown/South Jefferson) all had one goal each. McCabe also added an assist.

Jennifer Caffarelli (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) led the Mustangs with four goals.  Sybil Stanton (Walton/Walton) had two goals.

The Bears went up 2-0 in the first period before Morrisville would make it 2-1 close to the midway point.  The teams would trade goals before Brown would add two free-position goals to put Potsdam up 5-2 at halftime.

Morrisville scored two straight goals to make it a 5-4 game.  Potsdam then pulled ahead and scored five straight times to go up 10-4 with 7:09 to play in the second half.  The Mustangs would make it 10-5 at 6:21 and then Simmons scored 10 seconds later to make it 11-5 with Morrisville scoring the last goal of the game with 3:38 remaining.

Potsdam had the advantage in shots 25-15 and in groundballs 31-21.

Sarah Sweeney (Spenceport/Spenceport) made seven saves in goal for the Bears while Jennifer May (Rochester/Penfield) made six saves.

The Bears head on the road to take on Brockport this Saturday at 1 pm.

 

Bears Defeat New Paltz

(POTSDAM, NY)- Molly Lehman-Lewis scored three goals to lead the women’s lacrosse team to victory over the visiting New Paltz Hawks 12-2 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears improve their record to 6-3 (1-2 SUNYAC) while New Paltz falls to 2-6 (0-3 SUNYAC). The six wins set a new record for the most in the program’s history.

Ashley Bordignon (New Westminster, BC/St. Thomas More) and Carly Richards (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) both had two goals each.  Kelsey Shoen (Waddington/Madrid-Waddington), Allie Nettles (Carthage/Carthage), Samantha Brown (Rochester/Eastridge), Lisa Seidel (Coquitlam, BC/Charles Best Secondary), and Aubrey Macintosh (Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake) all had one goal each.  Shoen also had three assists while Nettles and Richards had two assists.

New Paltz scored first in the game to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Bears then scored on four consecutive times on goals by Lehman-Lewis and Bordignon.  The Hawks got it to within 4-2 before Potsdam rattled off eight more goals to pull away for the victory.

Kaci Milligan (Liverpool/Bishop Ludden) started and had two saves for the Bears.  Sarah Sweeney (Spenceport/Spenceport) came on in the second half and had two saves.  Lorraine Vultaggio had 10 saves for New Paltz.

The Bears will host Geneseo this Saturday at 4 pm.


Women Defeat Redlands

(REDLANDS, CA)- The women’s lacrosse team concluded its trip to California with a win in defeating Redlands College 19-8 on Friday afternoon. The Bears record now improves to 5-1.

Carly Richards (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) and Molly Lehman-Lewis (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) both led the Bears with five goals each. Richards also had five assists. Samantha Brown (Rochester/Eastridge) had two goals and Ashley Bordignon (New Westminster, BC/St. Thomas More), Kelsey Shoen (Waddington/Madrid-Waddington), Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, CT/Clinton), Naomi Flint (Georgetown, ONT/Georgetown), Liz Dargie (Canton/Canton) and Joan McCabe (Watertown/South Jefferson) all had one goal each.

The Bears fell behind 7-5 in the first period before scoring four straight goals to take a 9-7 lead going into halftime. Redlands got within 9-8 early in the second period but Potsdam rattled off eight straight goals to put the game out of reach.

Potsdam outshot Redlands 30-23 but lost in groundballs 25-22.

Sarah Sweeney (Spenceport/Spenceport) was in goal in the first period and made four saves. Kaci Milligan (Liverpool/Bishop Ludden) came on in the second half and made five saves.

The Bears return home to begin SUNYAC play and take on Oneonta this Tuesday at 4 pm.


Bears Humble Wildcats 21-8

(POTSDAM, NY) – Led by Carly Richards and Molly Lehman-Lewis with six goals each, the Potsdam Bears humbled the visiting Cazenovia Wildcats by a score of 21-8. Potsdam now moves to 3-1 overall while Cazenovia goes to 2-1.

The Bears led throughout the game outscoring the Wildcats 12-4 in the first half and 9-4 in the second. Potsdam also out-shot Cazenovia 37-18.

Richards (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) opened today’s scoring as she tallied her first goal with 28:01 on the clock. She scored four more first period goals before her final goal at 4:13 of the second period.

Lehman-Lewis (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) scored her first goal at 21:15 of the first period and finished with three goals in each period. Allie Nettles (Carthage/Carthage) followed the two leaders as she scored three goals.

Potsdam’s Ashley Bordignon (New Westminster, BC/St. Thomas More) and Maribeth Simmons (Clinton, CT/Clinton) connected for a pair of goals apiece. Naomi Flint and Kelsey Shoen added singles for the Bears.

Nicole Kimmel (Rome/RFA), Courtney Caldwell (Black River/Immaculate Heart), Cassandra Gazeley (West Sand Lake/Averil Park) and Christy Foster (Canton/Canton) each scored two goals for Cazenovia.

Starter Kaci Milligan (Buffalo/Amherst) and reliever Sarah Sweeney Spencerport/Spencerport) split Potsdam’s goalkeeping duties with a total of 9 saves. Cazenovia’s Cari Dwinal (Laconia, NH/Laconia) had 13 saves in the loss.

Potsdam Defeats Clarkson in Home Opener

(POTSDAM, NY) Led by Ashley Bordignon's five goals, the women's lacrosse team won its home opener over cross-town rival Clarkson 13-9 on Saturday afternoon.


Bordignon (New  Westminster, BC/St. Thomas More) also assisted on two goals.  Molly Lehman-Lewis (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) had two goals and two assists while Allie Nettles (Carthage/Carthage) and Joan McCabe (Watertown/South Jefferson) also scored twice.  Lisa Seidel (Coquitlam, BC/Charles Best Secondary) and Naomi Flint (Georgetown, ONT/Gerogetown) had one goal each.


Kimberley Loucks (Waterloo/Waterloo) led Clarkson with five goals.  Emily Bojarski (Syracuse/West Genesee) had two goals while Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT/Mount Mansfield) and Brittnie Carroll (Dexter, NY/General Brown) had one goal each.


The Bears took a 3-0 lead early in the first period on goals by Seidel and Bordignon and a free position goal by McCabe. Potsdam would tack on three more goals by the end of the period to go up 6-3 at halftime.


Bordignon struck twice in the second period to put Potsdam ahead 8-3.  The Bears would go ahead 11-5 and were looking to run away with the game until Clarkson scored three straight times to make it 11-8.  The score would be 12-9 with 6:19 until McCabe converted her second free position shot of the game to make it 13-9 with 4:44 to play. Clarkson would only get one more shot on goal the rest of the game.


Sarah Sweeney (Spenceport/Spenceport) made eight saves in goal for the Bears.  Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH/Derryfield) had 10 saves for Clarkson.
