Tim Moody

Tim Moody - Head Coach

Coach Tim Moody is now entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Lady Bears women’s soccer team. Moody’s success with the program has been impressive. He has the best winning percentage of any coach in the program’s history and is presently 2nd in total wins after only three seasons in charge of the team.  He guided the 2008 Bears to 10-9-2 en route to the best single season record in the program's history. In 2007 the Moody's Bears finished with an 8-9-2 tally. During his first year in 2006, Moody earned a  5-11-1 record as he improved upon the Bears 1-15-2 tally recorded the year before his arrival.  

In 2006, Cori Witkiewicz was selected SUNYAC All-Conference for her role, and in 2007 Lacey Malbeuf (a transfer from JCC) was also recognized for her performance from the SUNYAC.

In the spring of 2008, the team won the North Country Spring Invitational. The Grey team beat out the Maroon team in the final. In the past two years the program has also won accolades in the classroom and on the pitch. The team achieved an overall GPA of 3.24, the highest score of any Potsdam varsity program.  A “NSCAA Academic and Ethics award” was bestowed to the program for their sportsmanship and behavior on the pitch and positive attitude in the classroom.

Moody is an “A” license coach, certified from the United States Soccer Federation. The “A” license is the pinnacle achievement offered by the USSF. To compliment his US License, Moody also holds a European (UEFA) coaching qualification from the English Football Association.

Moody was formerly the head women’s soccer and lacrosse coach at Keuka College. “I am delighted that Tim has accepted our offer. He brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to this position. Coach Moody is a proven winner,” noted Potsdam Athletic Director Jim Zalacca upon Moody’s hire.

During his tenure with the Storm, Moody tallied a .625 winning percentage, one conference championship and two conference championship finals. For his accomplishments he was named the NEAC Women’s coach of the Year in both 2003 and 2004.

Before coaching at Keuka, Moody served as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at New England College, and prior to that he was an assistant at Keene State College with the women’s program. While in New Hampshire he was the Head Coach of the Olympic Development Program U17’s girls’ state team.  Moody has worked for several coaching companies nationwide, including Major League Soccer. During the past three summers he has been the director of the Potsdam Bears Soccer Academy and also runs the cub club in the fall.

Prior to his arriving in the United States, Moody was the Director of Athletics and Head of Physical Education at Peers Technology College, Oxford England.  At Peers, he was the coordinator of Sports Studies and coached several varsity teams, including basketball, softball, tennis, badminton, rugby, cricket, track and field, as well as soccer. His teams and athletes have won many trophies and accolades’ too many to mention. He coached many elite soccer teams, in which the girls and boys teams both won the National Championship, and the girls won the British Crown. Moody worked with two professional soccer clubs in England performing many duties and in serving in several capacities, from coaching, recruiting, education, development and the community service department.

Moody is a native of Southampton, England and a 1994 Graduate of West London’s Brunel University. He played soccer and basketball in college, where as a senior he was named to and played for the Southeast England regional select team in soccer (The equivalent to an All-American at the Division 1 level). Moody played semi-pro soccer in London and Oxford in England for many years, before retiring to coach soccer full-time. 

 

Lacey Malbeuf- Assistant Coach

Lacey Malbeuf began her first season of coaching with the SUNY Potsdam Bears in the fall of 2009.  She was a two year player at Potsdam and tallied 21 goals and 17 assists in her Bear career.  She came to Potsdam in 2007 as a transfer from Jefferson Community College when she earned an associate's degree in Liberal Arts.  Currently she is in the process of completing her bachelor's degree in Community Health here at Potsdam.

In addition to playing college soccer, Lacey has coached soccer in her hometown of Harrisville, NY for the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Coach Malbeuf will be counted upon to be in charge of the Bears recruiting along with fundraising for the team and doing community work.  Lacey will also assist with the daily team practice as well as participating in game day coaching.

Joshua Avery- Assistant Coach

Joshua joins the Bears for the fall season. He attended SUNY Canton where he played soccer for two years and was awarded Most Valuable Defensive Player and made the All-Conference 1st team. While at Canton, he studied Criminal Justice.

Other than playing soccer, Joshua has been very involved in his hometown of Colton, NY with assisting local soccer programs.  Since graduating from Colton-Pierrepont Central School, he has stayed involved with the boys varsity soccer team there.  He has also assisted at youth soccer camps in his hometown. Although he joined the sport fairly late, Joshua has developed a great passion for the game.

Joshua will be entering the United States Air Force this coming December.  He has booked a job in the mechanical area and will begin his career stationed at Lackland Air Base in San Antonio, TX.
