Volpi Leads Bears Over Clarkson

POTSDAM,
NY- Nicole Volpi
(Bethlehem/Bethlehem) scored one goal and had two assists to lead the SUNY
Potsdam women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over cross-town rival Clarkson
Thursday on Senior Night. It was the Bears final home game of the season.
The Bears struck quickly in the first half when Volpi found
Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) for her tenth goal of the season. Eight
minutes later, Volpi assisted on Heather Johnson's (Ogdensburg/Heuvelton)
goal. In the 57th minute, Poirier found
Volpi this time for the goal to put the Bears up 3-0.
Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) started in goal and made seven
saves for the Bears. Lisa Bates came in
the second half and played 3:20 and recorded one save. Stephanie Collins had two saves for the
Golden Knights.
Clarkson led Potsdam
in shots 12-8.
Bears Defeat Morrisville

POTSDAM, NY- The women's soccer team scored midway into the
first half and that was all that they needed as they defeated visiting
Morrisville 2-0 on a cold and blustery Sunday afternoon on Maxcy Turf.
Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) scored her team
leading ninth goal of the season off assists from Nicole Volpi
(Bethlehem/Bethlehem) and Emily Doyle (Saranac Lake/Saranac Lake) on a
breakaway in the 22nd minute. In the
second half, Kathleen Frear's (Scotia/Scotia) corner kick was directed in the
goal by Kelly McMahon (Burnt Hills/-Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake)
who scored her first of the season.
Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) started the game and did not
have a save for the Bears. Cheyanna
Waters had 10 saves for the Mustangs.
The Bears improve their record to 7-9-1. They will host
cross-town rival Clarkson in the home finale on Thursday night at 6 pm.
Bears Tie Geneseo

POTSDAM,
NY- Despite being outshot in the
game, the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team held its own against a tough
conference opponent as they played to a 0-0 tie against Geneseo on Friday
night. The Bears record is now 6-1-1.
The Knights had a 16-2 advantage in shots including seven
shots on goal but could not get past a tough Bear defense. Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) made six saves
in goal including a diving stop early in the second half to prevent a Geneseo
score.
With 4:26 left in the second overtime, Kathleen Frear
(Scotia/Scotia) hit a long shot that was knocked down by Knight goalkeeper
Katie Clerkin and almost went into the goal. Clerkin had two saves for Geneseo.
The Bears return to the field tomorrow with a game against
Brockport at 1 pm.
Women Overwhelm Paul Smith's

NY- Two different players scored
hat tricks as the women's soccer team defeated Paul Smith's College 8-0 on
Tuesday night.
Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) and Nicole Volpi
(Bethlehem/Bethlehem) both scored three goals each to lead the Bears. Poirier also had two assists giving her 8
points total in the game which tied a team record. Heather Johnson
(Ogdensburg/Heuvelton) and Liz Bazzano (Peru/Peru) scored the other two goals.
Desi Webster (Potsdam/Potsdam) and Kathleen Frear (Scotia/Scotia) both had two
assists.
Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) started the first half and
made one save. Lisa Bates (Ballston Spa/Galway) came in the second half and did
not record a save. Karlie Zurmuhlen made
17 saves for Paul Smith's.
Potsdam
had a total of 35 shots in the game. Their 13 corner kicks were one shy of
tying a team record.
The Bears improve their record to 6-1. They return to SUNYAC play on Friday as they
host Geneseo at 4 pm.
Bears Upend SUNYIT

POTSDAM, NY- Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) scored two goals to
lead the women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over SUNYIT on Wednesday
night. The win gives the Bears a record of 5-0.
Heather Johnson
(Ogdensburg/Heuvelton) tallied the Bears first goal of the game after
only a minute and half of play. Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira)
followed later with a shot that hit the crossbar but was deflected
away. Palmer later scored her first of the game to put the Bears up
2-0. Four and a half minutes later, Palmer shot from the top of the
goalie box and put it into the left corner of the net. Nicole Volpi
(Bethlehem/Bethlehem) scored her first goal of the year late in the
second half to end the scoring.
Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam)
started the game and made one save in goal. Lisa Bates (Ballston
Spa/Galway) came in the second half and did not record a save. Halie
Tyler had five saves for SUNYIT and Cynthia DeLeon had one save.
Next
for the Bears is a home game against SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh who is
ranked 18th in the latest national rankings. Game time is 7 pm on
Saturday.
Bears Defeat Hilbert

POTSDAM, NY- The women's soccer team scored early in the
first half in a tough defensive battle before scoring twice more later in the
second half as they defeated Hilbert College 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) put
Potsdam on the board early in the second half
after having her previous shot bounce off of the crossbar.
It was her fifth goal of the year. Liz
Bazzano (Peru/Peru) and Heather Johnson (Ogdensburg/Heuvelton) added goals in
the second half to seal the win for the Bears.
Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) had one save in 70:53 of time
in goal. Lisa Bates (Ballston Spa/Galway) played 19:07 and did not record a
save. Mary Zinni made six saves for Hilbert.
Potsdam lead
Hilbert in shots 15-4 and Hilbert had only one shot on goal.
The Bears are now 4-0.
Bears Overpower Wells

The SUNY
Potsdam women's soccer team scored six
goals en route to a 6-0 victory over host
Wells College
on Saturday afternoon. The Bears record now stands at 2-0.
Goals were spread among six different players.
Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) scored
the first of the game and later had an assist. Alissa Tischler
(Potsdam/Potsdam) scored the second goal and later had an assist.
Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) had one
goal as well as Heather Johnson (Ogdensburg/Heuvelton) and Brittany Hughes
(Pickering, Ca/St. Mary CSS), and Kathleen Frear (Scotia/Scotia) had a goal and
two assists.
In goal, Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) played 27:31 and had
one save.
Lisa Bates (Ballston
Spa/Galway) had 40:19 of time and made three saves, and Nicole Volpi
(Bethlehem/Bethlehem) logged 22:10 of playing time and had one save.
Savanna Duh made seven saves for Wells and
Britteney Laurenceau had two saves.
Potsdam
outshot Wells 28-5.
Bears Win Home Opener

POTSDAM, NY- Dedra Palmer (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) scored two goals as the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team recorded its first win of the year 4-0 over visiting SUNY Canton under the lights at Maxcy Turf on Tuesday night.
Kathleen Frear (Scotia/Scotia) and Courtney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) scored the other two goals for the Bears.
The game was scoreless in the first period despite Potsdam holding an 8-0 lead in shots. Jess Mehm (Schroon Lake/Scroon Lake) had two good shots on goal that were saved by Canton's goalkeeper Ashley Knox.
The Bears finally broke through in the second half. Frear scored deep from the left side of the field to put Potsdam on the board at 46:51. Just under two minutes later, Palmer scored her first goal of the game to increase the lead. Poirier later scored the third goal of the game and assisted on Palmer's second of the game.
Potsdam outshot Canton 22-2. Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) started in goal and played 58:17 and recorded one save. Nicole Volpi (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) played 17:27 and recorded a save and Lisa Bates (Ballston Spa/Galway) came in for 14:16 and did not record a save.
Ashley Knox had 12 saves for Canton.
