POTSDAM, NY- The women’s soccer team scored midway into the first half and that was all that they needed as they defeated visiting Morrisville 2-0 on a cold and blustery Sunday afternoon on Maxcy Turf.

Cortney Poirier (Moira/Brushton-Moira) scored her team leading ninth goal of the season off assists from Nicole Volpi (Bethlehem/Bethlehem) and Emily Doyle (Saranac Lake/Saranac Lake) on a breakaway in the 22nd minute. In the second half, Kathleen Frear’s (Scotia/Scotia) corner kick was directed in the goal by Kelly McMahon (Burnt Hills/-Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) who scored her first of the season.

Sarah Casey (Potsdam/Potsdam) started the game and did not have a save for the Bears. Cheyanna Waters had 10 saves for the Mustangs.

The Bears improve their record to 7-9-1. They will host cross-town rival Clarkson in their home finale on Thursday night at 6 pm.
