Volleyball: Blujus, Anderson earn ALL-SUNYAC nods

The coaches' ballots have been cast and the votes are in for the 2013 All-SUNYAC Volleyball teams.

Two nods were extended to SUNY Potsdam seniors Jenna Blujus and Sara Anderson after a season in which the Bears reached the postseason for the second consecutive season.

Blujus, a setter/right side from Baldwinsville, N.Y., became an All-SUNYAC First Team selection for the third straight season and cemented her legacy as one of the all-time best in Bears' volleyball history.

She has become the only Bears' player to make the All-Conference First Team on three occasions. Previously, Jamie Kraus (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz) was also a two-time All-SUNYAC First Team selection and two-time ALL-SUNYAC Second Team selection.

Blujus was joined on this season's honor list by Anderson, an outside hitter from Lake George, N.Y., who brought her game to new levels this season to affirm her spot on the All-SUNYAC Second Team for the first time.

Blujus collected the most aces on the team with 72 and also was second on the team in assists (386), kills (217) and digs (391). The C.W. Baker High School alum exits as the program's all-time leader in assists with 2,808 and aces with 257. She ranked 30th in the country for aces per set.

"Jenna improved her entire game and did a good job in jumping into multiple roles this season," said Potsdam head coach Josh Stokes, who utilized Blujus more as an all-around player this season as opposed to the heavier facilitator role she possessed last season.

"It was difficult, at first, to take on that opportunity, but she adopted very well," Stokes added. "She was consistent all the way through and did a lot of great things throughout her career for the program. It's always difficult to replace a player who is as talented and as consistent as she is."

As for Anderson, she led the team in kills (232), hitting percentage (.361) and blocks (62). The Lake George High School alum improved upon all of those totals from a season ago when she totaled 193 kills with a .161 hitting percentage and 38 blocks.

Hitting percentage was a top mark for Anderson as she was 29th in the country for that category.

"That's taking a giant leap to a whole another direction," said coach Stokes. "She was virtually unstoppable at times. During the VPI [Victory Promotions Invitational] tournament, it really clicked and that light bulb moment happened for her. I knew it was there. She just had to find it."

"I'm really proud of both of them and for the way the team played around them to give them that opportunity to pile up all those stats," coach Stokes said. "It's a credit to both those players and to the team's effort."
