Blujus earns ECAC honor
POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam senior Jenna Blujus has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Metro/Upstate Region Covias Volleyball Player of the Week. The award is in recognition for her play during the week ending Sept. 29. Blujus earned the same honor from the SUNYAC on Monday.
The two-time all-conference setter/right side had another monster weekend for the Bears, leading Potsdam to a 3-0 SUNYAC Pool Play weekend and a spot atop the conference standings. Blujus had 11 kills, 20 assists and 18 digs in Potsdam's five-set victory over Cortland on Saturday. It was the Bears first win over the Red Dragons since 2008 and just the third victory in the series since 1984. Blujus finished out the weekend with 27 kills, 58 assists and 47 digs.
This season, the senior leads the team in assists (308), digs (250) and services aces (49) and is second in kills (146) and blocks (17). Blujus is already SUNY Potsdam's all-time assists and service ace leader.
The Bears head to Brookline, Mass. this Saturday for two matches at Newbury College. Potsdam will face Daniel Webster College at noon and the host Nighthawks at 2 p.m.
